NILU DAMLE

  • Nilu Damle graduated from Dayanand-Shahu College, Latur, and Marathwada University, Aurangabad. In a long career as a researcher, journalist and writer, he has worked (for the ICSSR) on projects relating to the Trade union movement and to Rural Development, and on Grass Roots efforts and the Right to Information (for the Institute for Development Studies, Sussex University UK). He has published features in English, Hindi and Marathi in a wide range of journals.
  • He has produced and presented 25 programmes for Mumbai TV, with Vijay Tendulkar, and has contributed to and compered many programmes for All India Radio. He has traveled extensively in India. and south Asia and in East and South East Asia, the Middle East and Europe and the United States He has lectured at leading academic institutioins in Mumbai including Mumbai University Marathwada University and Shivaji University.
  • Nilu Damle has been actively involved in social organizations in Maharashtra and the Socialist movement in Maharashtra and India. He has been associated with some of the leading politicians and cultural and social activists of contemporary India. He has written several books on the media and on agricultural and rural development, and has published three novels.
  • As Research Associate for the Media South Asia Project, he conducted surveys and wrote reports on the impact of the broadcast media in Maharashtra and Varanasi.
